FIVE SUNDAYS, FIVE BODIES
This 75-minute class will marry breath work (pranayama), kundalini yoga (the yoga of awareness), chanting mantra (internal sound vibration) and the benefits of a gong bath meditation (sound healing). Participants will undertake a kundalini yoga kriya (yoga set), and experience a profound presence of mind emanating from yoga postures, different patterns of breathing, the vibratory effects of chanting, and ultimately a calm, yet vibrant, resting state, accompanied by the deep vibratory sounds of the gong. You will leave feeling more relaxed, calmer, and more grounded than when you entered the class. Each class will focus on a different energetic center known, in kundalini yoga, as a “body” (similar to the chakra system). While there are ten bodies in this system, we will focus on the first five: Class 1: 1st body, Class 2: 2nd body, Class 3, 3rd body, etc. We end by working with the 5th body.
Yogis should bring their own mat (we recommend doubling up) and a block/s, blanket, and meditation pillow (optional). Class participants may expect some exertion, but any postures may be modified. Kundalini yoga blends meditation with stretching. The emphasis is on meditation as opposed to athleticism. All levels.
Halle and Lucy are both certified to teach Kundalini Yoga and trained with Kirn and Guruchander Khalsa, Purest Potential, in Santa Fe in 2021. Both Lucy and Halle sing and look forward to chanting mantra and banging on loud things. Both have taught yoga classes at Purest Potential as teacher-trainees, and later at local studios. Lucy taught kundalini yoga, most recently, at Thrive, where she was also an indoor cycling for over four years.
Thank you in advance for participating, and for contributing to the Improv4Schools program.
