Saturday, May 11th: PULLING PREMISE BASICS @11am-2pm

Give a monologue and initiate a premise. It’s easy until it’s not. We will go over some solid strategies (one step beyond, analogous, using a character), problems to avoid (don’t forget the why) and things that are different than non-premise improv (yes, you can tell the other person who they are). Once the scene gets going, it’s easy. Get sharp at this very useful tool and approach.

Prerequisite: Students must have taken, or be currently taking SFI’s Level One Improv classes at SFI (or those with equivalent improv experience).

Will has been teaching long-form improv since 2004 at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, at both its New York and Los Angeles branches. He’s published a best-selling book on improv called How to Be The Greatest Improviser on Earth. He’s also a working comedic actor and has appeared on many terrific television programs (Brooklyn 99) and on some big podcasts (Comedy Bang-Bang) as well as the 99 podcasts he’s produced himself (including Screw It We’re Just Gonna Talk about the Beatles) He’s also the founder of the audaciously-named World’s Greatest Improv School.
