James, a software engineer by day, discovered improv by chance after spotting a flyer in a bar and signing up for a class at Santa Fe Improv—despite having no prior theater or acting experience. When the day for the first class came, he almost didn’t go, and felt stupid for signing up for something so outside of his comfort zone. But he went anyway, telling himself he could always figure out a way to leave in the middle of class and never have to see any of those people again. Instead, he fell in love with the art, the process, and the challenge of improv. More importantly, he found a welcoming and diverse community, many of whom have grown to be good friends. James now teaches at Santa Fe Improv and performs with the house team After School Special.
