RJ Williams, Second City, to Teach Two Musical Improv Workshops at Santa Fe Improv

RJ Williams will teach two musical improv workshops at Santa Fe Improv on Wednesday and Thursday, June 26 and 27, 2024. RJ teaches at The Second City NY and has performed improv in the US, Europe, and Japan. He is part of the musical supergroup Baby Wants Candy, which performs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival every year, and is a veteran member of North Coast Hip Hop Improv. He is also a playwright, drummer, and produces music for various projects.

Give a monologue and initiate a premise. It’s easy until it’s not. We will go over some solid strategies (one step beyond, analogous, using a character), problems to avoid (don’t forget the why) and things that are different than non-premise improv (Yes, you can tell the other person who they are). Once the scene gets going, it’s easy. Get sharp at this very useful tool and approach.
