RJ Williams will teach two musical improv workshops at Santa Fe Improv on Wednesday and Thursday, June 26 and 27, 2024. RJ teaches at The Second City NY and has performed improv in the US, Europe, and Japan. He is part of the musical supergroup Baby Wants Candy, which performs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival every year, and is a veteran member of North Coast Hip Hop Improv. He is also a playwright, drummer, and produces music for various projects.
The Wednesday workshop, for students who have already taken Level Two (or higher) at SFI or equivalent, will focus on the basics of creating a musical improv scene. This includes creating a character point of view, matching and varying harmonies, creating unified choruses and more. Students will then dive into creating an original narrative musical with their classmates!
During the Thursday workshop, which is for all-levels of experience, students will learn the basics of creating a hip hop improv scene. We will dive into various styles of flow and work various aspects of our rhyming brains. There will be exercises to introduce students to rhyming structure, story progression through rapping and more. The workshop will end with scenes that lead into rap.
Each workshop costs $75. Register online today.
